
Senior Braden Lapp has been recognized as ’s STAR student for 2011-2012. Braden has selected Mr. Michael Fitzsimmons as his STAR Teacher.
The Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program honors Georgia's outstanding high school seniors and the teachers who have been most instrumental in their academic development. During the past 51 years, the STAR Program has honored more than 21,500 high school seniors who have in turn chosen their STAR Teachers to share in this recognition.
Braden is a Distinguished Honor Roll student, a member of the National Honor Society, an AP Scholar, and a National Merit Commended Scholar. He is an avid volunteer, giving his time to Habitat for Humanity, the Athens Area Homeless Shelter, and Hands On Athens, as well as volunteering weekly at his church in Greensboro. Braden has also played the trombone with the Athens Academy Pep Band since seventh grade.

Mr. Fitzsimmons is the Mathematics Department Chair and teaches Algebra I Advanced, Algebra II Honors, Geometry Advanced, and Pre-Calculus Honors. A retired US Navy pilot, Mr. Fitzsimmons has been an educator for 15 years and has taught at Athens Academy since 2006.
Braden is the son of Daniel and Mary Jo Lapp of Greensboro.
