Funeral Arrangements Have Been Made for Sadie Shaffer

Sadie Shaffer passed away on December 18, 2012, after a year long battle with cancer.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Francis Shaffer, her two children, Ms. Marion Shaffer and Dr. Michael Shaffer.  She is survived by her son Mr. Gene Shaffer and her daughter Colonel Gayle O’Rear, Ret.

Sadie spent over 25 years as an Army wife and traveled all over the world with her husband and four children.  When her husband retired from Emory University School of Dentistry, she continued her active life as a mother in addition to pursuing her love of sewing, gardening, and reading.  Sadie also worked as a real estate agent and eventually became the first female Senior Residential Appraiser in Georgia.  

For five years, she was the President of the Gwinnett Board of Realtors.  She worked as an independent appraiser for over 25 years and after retiring from appraising at the age of 83, she participated as a member of the altar society at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Stone Mountain, GA. 

A Graveside Service Celebrating the Life of Sadie Shaffer will be held Friday, December 21, at 2 p.m. at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Tucker, Ga.  The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. 

In lieu of flowers, donations maybe made to the Humane Society, in memory of Sadie Shaffer.
