The officer approached the man after seeing his car, which matched a "be on the lookout alert" at the gas station, the GBI said. Authorities said the BOLO was related to incidents from earlier Monday morning.
The earlier incidents were not detailed, but the GBI said they led the officer to believe the man had a handgun. While the man was speaking with the officer, he is accused of pointing the handgun at the officer before being shot by the officer, the GBI said.

Authorities identified the man as 28-year-old Raymond Johnson. It's unknown what charges he is facing.
He was treated at a local hospital before being taken to the Gwinnett County Jail.
Once the GBI completes its investigation, the case will be turned over to the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office for review.
This is the sixth shooting the GBI has been requested to investigate that involved a police officer this year.
