Snellville Shooting Leads To Search For Suspect, School Lockdown

The shooting was the result of an alleged drug transaction, police said.

SNELLVILLE, GA — A shooting that injured an 18-year-old man Wednesday in the 2400 block of Eastgate Place caused a soft lockdown at South Gwinnett High School, Snellville Police said.

The shooting took place around 8:45 a.m. Police said the man had been shot in the leg during an alleged drug transaction, and aid was provided at the scene. The man was taken to Northside Gwinnett Hospital.

The suspect fled to the nearby woods, prompting both a police search and South Gwinnett to be placed on lockdown, police said.

Snellville Police were assisted by the Gwinnett County and the Gwinnett County Schools police departments in the search for the unnamed suspect.

While the search was ongoing, South Gwinnett students were allowed to move inside of the school but could not go outside of the building.

Gwinnett County Schools officials said the police activity did not take place on the campus.
