Police: Man Tries to 'Blend in' at McDonald's Playground After Fleeing Cops

An officer had tried to pull him over after learning he was driving on a suspended license.

A Snellville man tried to "blend in" at a McDonald's playground to avoid getting arrested Sunday (Dec. 15) after police tried pulling him over on a suspended license charge.

According to the Snellville Police report, the 37-year-old was driving a silver Mercedes on Georgia 124 near Henry Clower Boulevard around 2:14 p.m. An officer pulled up the vehicle's tag information, and it indicated that the registered owner had a suspended license for being a super speeder.

The driver's appearance matched the car owner's photo in the system, so the officer attempted to pull him over.

Instead, the vehicle kept going, making three more turns and running a stop sign. Speeding, the driver got back on Henry Clower Boulevard and parked at Rollins Automotive.

He abruptly exited the Mercedes and quickly approached the patrol car. The officer gave loud and clear instructions and eventually yelled for the driver to stop and return to his car, but he did not comply. He ran past the police car, out of the parking lot and into the McDonald's on the corner of West Main Street and Henry Clower.

As the officer was requesting for backup, the offender entered the restaurant's bathroom and removed his jacket, shirt and sunglasses. Leaving the clothing there, he then exited the restaurant but immediately re-entered.

At this point, additional officers arrived and surrounded the restaurant in the parking lot. The suspect decided to stay put.

"I observed the offender walk into the McDonald's children playground area and attempt to 'blend in' with the standing crowd of adults and children," wrote the officer in the report.

A cop approached the suspect and immediately placed him under arrest. When searching the offender's vehicle, authorities found an opened Corona bottle that was "cold to the touch."

According to Gwinnett County jail records, the driver was charged with obstruction, failure to yield at stop signs, open container and driving with a suspended/revoked license. He was transported to the Gwinnett County Jail.
