Gwinnett County firefighters recently released a warning to stay off ice that may form on lakes, ponds, creeks and in ditches. With prolonged below-freezing temperatures forming ice on surface water sources around the county, firefighters reminded citizens that such ice cannot support the weight of an adult, child, or even a large animal. Excerpted from their release: "Β If you do fall through aΒ frozen body of water, remember toΒ stay calm: reach for solid ice, kick to exit the hole, and then roll to safety toward the shore. Never attempt to go out on the ice to rescue another person in distress. Try to reach the victim using a long-pole or a throw rope bag and stay on the shore.ο»Ώ"ο»Ώ
