Gwinnett Department of Water Resources officials remind customers that oils, fats, and grease should not be flushed down the sink. These things tend to cool and congeal in sewer pipes, causing blockages that may lead to sewage overflow or get into streams and lakes. Fatty acids are also very difficult to remove from water at sewage treatment facilities. The proper way to deal with these products is to place them in a sealed container with a secure lid and throw them in the garbage. Restaurant owners should have their grease traps regularly cleaned out by their service providers to prevent overflow.ο»Ώ
