Farmers Market Bids Farewell to a Soggy 2013

The Suwanee Farmers Market has its last session of 2013 on Saturday (Oct. 5) in Town Center Park.

And the run that began in the spring had a mixed review, because of the heavy rainfall that affected so many things in and around Suwanee.

"As the Suwanee Farmers Market continues to grow each year, this was the first year we have had farmers experience 'too much' rain and little sunlight, which had an effect on their crops," Rosalie Tubre, the volunteer who handles on-site duties at the market, said in an email.

"There was definitely not an abundance of cucumbers, tomatoes, and squash, as in previous markets. They tried replanting after losing most of their crops, but the rain continued and had a negative effect on their yields. Our watermelon, and cantaloupe crop was a disaster this year.

"Hopefully, everyone will return in the spring and we will have a nicer mix of sun and rain but definitely not as much rain as this year!," Tubre said.
