First Fridays at Floataway Community Kicks Off Friday
The event will kickstart a series of block paries, which are free to the public.

Neighbors, friends and families are invited to kickoff the spring season with “First Fridays,” Floataway Community’s new festive series of block parties.
A series of “First Fridays” events begins April 5, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., at Floataway Community, located at 1123 Zonolite Road. Guests are invited to gather in the Floataway Building’s quaint courtyard to nosh on crostini from Floataway Café and imbibe with beer. An old-fashioned popcorn cart will delight guests while Sailing to Denver plays live.
The hip community, celebrated as one of Atlanta’s first and most notable artists’ enclaves, will display an exhibit by local artist Michael Elliston, titled “Painting without the Painter.” Artist James Wall will also open his studio for the evening to display his captivating collection of pastel portraits. A twilight tour through enchanting Nickel Bottom Garden, followed by a champagne toast, is also part of the Floataway fun.

“Years ago, we used to throw great big bashes on the street with live music, art and lots of conviviality,” said Kathleen Walker, owner of TuckerMott Companies, the development and leasing company behind the community. “This year, we're bringing some of that spirit back to the neighborhood through these community events. Everyone is welcome.”
In addition to industrial space and warehouse office space, Floataway Community and the surrounding Zonolite area has attracted a number of interesting retail and service businesses since the late 80s, from a blacksmith’s forge to the Atlanta Soto Zen Center.
