Officials Test National Alert System
Don't be alarmed, that alert you see on TV today is only a test.

Several federal agencies are planning a test of a nationwide alert system Wednesday afternoon, and officials want to spread the word so people won't be upset by the exercise.
The test will start at 2 p.m. Eastern Standard Time and will involve a 3-minute message broadcast across all radio and TV stations in the U.S. simultaneously. A release detailing the plan says that previous tests have lasted for just 30 seconds or a minute.
Officials want the public to be aware that the televised message might not indicate that it is just a test.
