Police To Hold Community Meeting for Zone 6 Residents

Police chief and commanders will discuss proposed changes to zones.

Virginia Highland, Morningside and Druid Hills residents will have the opportunity to talk with Atlanta Police Chief George Turner and zone six commander Major John Dalton next month about the proposed changes to the patrol zones.

Turner and zone commanders will hold community meetings in March to unveil the plan to reorganize the department's six patrol zones, the department announced earlier this month. The dates of the meetings were released via e-mail Friday.

APD originally commissioned the plan to create more even workloads among the six zones and cut down on response times.

“It’s important for us to communicate our intentions to the public,” Turner said in a prepared statement. “I’m hoping that citizens will gain a greater understanding of what we’re trying to accomplish and see the benefits that will result in a safer city for all of us.”

The meeting for zone six — which includes Virginia Highland, Morningside and the Atlanta portion of Druid Hills — will be held March 31 at the , 400 Flat Shoals Ave. SE, at 7 p.m.
