Accused Chainsaw Attacker Admits Incident Started Over Wife With Victim: Cops

Jose Jaimes-Jiminez, 27, faces attempted murder and other charges in Monday's alleged attack in Arlington Heights.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — A 27-year-old Arlington Heights man faces attempted murder and other felony charges after police claim he intentionally crashed his car into another vehicle Monday before using a chainsaw to attack the other driver. The victim — a 39-year-old man — was taken to Northwest Community Hospital, where he underwent surgery for cuts to his stomach, right hand, right elbow and left forearm, according to a police statement released Wednesday.

Along with the count of attempted first-degree murder, Jose A. Jaimes-Jiminez also was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated battery in the incident. According to police, officers responded to reports of a car accident and a man with a chainsaw chasing another person at around 1 p.m. Monday, June 19, in the 500 block of West Golf Road. When police arrived, they found Jaimes-Jiminez on the ground of a nearby industrial complex parking lot. He was next to a chainsaw and wearing only boxer shorts when he was taken into custody without incident, authorities said.

Police allege Jaimes-Jiminez rammed his car into the victim's vehicle. Following the crash, the victim fled on foot, and Jaimes-Jiminez is accused of pursuing him a short distance before attacking him with a chainsaw, according to police.

The victim eventually was able to escape into a nearby business, police said. Employees then locked the door and called 911 while the victim waited inside for paramedics.

The girlfriend of the victim also was in the car at the time of the attack, but police said she wasn't hurt. Once in custody, Jaimes-Jiminez admitted to officers that the victim's girlfriend — his wife — was at the center of Monday's incident.
