Chainsaw Attack Nearly Cut Off Victim's Arm: Prosecutors
Jose A. Jaimes-Jiminez, 27, was ordered held on $2.5 million bail Wednesday in an incident the judge said was "out of a horror movie."

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — A 27-year-old Arlington Heights man was ordered held on $2.5 million bail Wednesday after he was charged with attempted murder and accused of attacking a 39-year-old man with a chainsaw Monday, which nearly severed the victim's forearm. Northwest Community Hospital doctors surgically placed pins and a metal plate in the man's arm after the power tool cut through the bone, leaving only skin and a tendon keeping the appendage attached, the Daily Herald reports.
Jose A. Jaimes-Jiminez, of the 4000 block of Bonhill Drive, is charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon in the incident Monday, June 19, at a parking lot in the 500 block of West Golf Road. His next court date is July 14. (Get Patch real-time email alerts for the latest Arlington Heights news. And iPhone users: Check out Patch's new app.)
Despite the chainsaw causing bodily harm that the judge at Wednesday's bail hearing described as being "out of a horror movie," the attempted murder charge — which carries a 30-year prison sentence if convicted — applies to Jaimes-Jiminez allegedly crashing his car into the victim's vehicle on purpose before chasing the man with a chainsaw, according to the Herald. The impact of the collision caused the air bags to be deployed, the report added.

According to prosecutors, Jaimes-Jiminez allegedly admitted to police that he attacked the man and his girlfriend — the accused attacker's wife — outside the office where the two worked together in order to "hurt the victim and send a message," the report stated. He and the victim had argued at a store three days earlier, the report added.

On Monday, Jaimes-Jiminez used his car to block the man and woman from driving out of the office parking lot, then confronted them with a chainsaw, the report stated. The victim tried to drive out a different way as Jaimes-Jiminez allegedly swung the power tool at the couple, the report added.
After prosecutors say he intentionally rammed the victim's car, a chainsaw-wielding Jaimes-Jiminez allegedly chased the man, who eventually stumbled to the ground while trying to flee, the report stated. That's when Jaimes-Jiminez is accused of cutting the victim, who had raised up his arms to protect himself, according to the report. Along with the severely injured forearm, the victim also was hurt on his right elbow and stomach, the report added.

The man eventually escaped by kicking Jaimes-Jiminez in the groin and running into a nearby office, the report stated. After the victim fled, prosecutors say Jaimes-Jiminez undressed to his boxer shorts and lied down on the ground next to the chainsaw so police knew he was unarmed, the report added.
Paramedics took the victim to Northwest Community Hospital, where he has been since Monday. As of Tuesday, he was still receiving blood tranfusions because he had lost so much blood from the chainsaw attack, the Herald reports.
