Chainsaw-Wielding Driver Attacks, Injures Man Following Car Crash: Cops

The alleged attacker is in custody after Monday's incident in the 500 block of West Golf Road in Arlington Heights.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — A man is in custody Monday Arlington Heights police claim he allegedly wielded a chainsaw and attacked another man following a domestic incident that also involved a head-on car crash and a parking lot foot chase, according to reports. The victim in the attack was cut on his forearm, and he was taken to Northwest Community Hospital, where he underwent surgery for the non-life-threatening injury, the Daily Herald reports.

Authorities responded to a call of a car accident with injuries at around 1:12 p.m. Monday, June 19, in the 500 block of West Golf Road, the Arlington Cardinal reports. Witnesses told the Cardinal that two sedans — one silver, the other blue — were in a head-on collision. (Get Patch real-time email alerts for the latest Arlington Heights news. The silver sedan's driver then allegedly attacked the other car's driver and chased him on foot with a chainsaw, the report stated. The chase ran through a nearby parking lot, and witnesses say the accused attacker injured the victim with the chainsaw, the report added.

According to the Herald, the victim was driving with his girlfriend at the time of the accident, and investigators were questioning her about the incident. The couple work at the same business near the crime scene, the report added.

Police have not released the name of the accused attacker, and it is not known if charges have been filed yet in the incident, the Herald reports.
