$1M Winning Scratch-Off Lottery Ticket Sold At Aurora Gas Station

A Thorntons gas station on Ogden Road sold the $1 million-winning ticket to the lucky lottery player.

AURORA, IL — An Aurora gas station sold a $1 million scratch-off lottery ticket to one lucky woman, Illinois Lottery officials said Tuesday.

The winner, who requested to remain anonymous, purchased a $10 Million Instant Ticket at Thorntons, 2800 Ogden Ave. The $50 scratch-off first launched in Illinois last December.

"I'm in my sixties," the woman said, per an Illinois Lottery news release. "This win came at a great time. I just retired last year, and this will help my retirement be that much more comfortable."

She continued: "I usually stick to what I know, like the $5-$10 Instant Tickets. But when one of my $10 scratch-off tickets won $100, I decided to try out this new $50 scratch-off ticket. I couldn’t believe I won $1 million — I had to scan the ticket twice to make sure."

The woman is the fifth $1 million prize winner on the $10 Million Instant Ticket, officials said. The game's prizes include three for $10 million, 15 for $1 million, and the best odds to win $500 from any scratch-off.

The winner isn't the only one benefiting from the lucky ticket. Because the Thorntons gas station sold it, it will receive a bonus of $10,000 — 1 percent of the prize amount.

So far in 2024, more than 19.5 million Illinois Lottery Instant Tickets have sold, netting players more than $486 million in prizes, according to the gaming company.
