APD spokesperson Paris Lewbel told Patch the department consulted with the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force, which investigates officer-involved deaths for law enforcement agencies in the county.

It was determined the two deaths connected to the Jan. 23 crash were not officer-involved deaths because police ended their pursuit and turned off East Indian Trail prior to the fatal crash, Lewbel said.

However, the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force has launched an investigation into the Tuesday night crash as officers were still in pursuit of the Mazda when it crashed, Aurora police said.
