33 Citations Issued In APD's Crackdown On Street Racing, Car Meetups

Aurora police have cracked down on street racing and unauthorized car meetups over the last few weeks to ensure "safety for all who travel."

AURORA, IL — Over the last few weeks, the Aurora Police Department has cracked down on street racing and unauthorized car meetups in the city. The enforcement has resulted in 33 citations and one arrest, officials said Thursday.

The Aurora Police Department's Community Oriented Policing Unit and Patrol Division "have been hard at work" tackling the behavior. Operations have led to 33 traffic stops, 33 citations and one arrest for driving under the influence in a street racing-related crash, according to a news release.

Officials said during the enforcement, one vehicle also fled from a traffic stop and refused to pull over for police. The car's registered owner was fined $1,000 and "held accountable for the incident without putting the public at risk." The fine is possible thanks to Aurora's new fleeing and eluding ordinance.
