KANE COUNTY, IL — All political events in Kane County will have heightened law enforcement presence going forward, the Kane County Sheriff's Office and Kane County State's Attorney's Office said Monday.
The increased security measures come after former President Donald Trump was injured in what the FBI called an attempted assassination Saturday during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, located about an hour north of Pittsburgh. Trump, in a statement released on Truth Social, said his upper right ear was pierced by a bullet.

"We are horrified by the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump," the Kane County agencies said in a statement. "Political violence has no place in the United States, and we must all condemn this abhorrent act. In a democratic society, violence is never the answer. No one should have to risk their life to run for office, attend a political event, or advocate for a cause."
The statement continued: "We must unite as a nation to denounce violence and promote a peaceful democratic process."
