Aurora Among Top Cities In Country For Creatives, Makers: Study
A new poll analyzed data from 200 of the country's most populated cities to determine which is best for creatives.

AURORA, IL — Aurora was named one of the best cities in the country — and best in Illinois— for creatives and makers by a new poll.
Creative Fabrica, a software company based in Amsterdam, collected Google Business data from the 200 most populated cities in the United States using a list of 90 tags that relate to creative activities, hobbies and more to determine where artists could flourish. Aurora came in sixth place.
"There's many hands in art in Aurora, and that's what's so great about our community is once you see that creativity, you want to be part of it. It's energizing," Marissa Amoni, who owns an eponymous public relations firm, said in a City of Aurora spotlight video on makers and creatives.

The five cities to beat Aurora are Kansas City, Kansas; Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Lakewood, New Jersey; Salt Lake City, Utah; and Charleston, South Carolina.
The top cities are "vibrant hubs," according to Creative Fabrica, that offer "a wealth of support, from classes and workshops to inspiring businesses and fellow artists. "

"We like to think that all humans are artists and everything we do is creative. Aurora as a city is unique because it nurtures that and puts it at the heart of everything we do," said Jessica Duplessis, director of education at the Paramount School of the Arts.
The No. 1 worst city on the list? New York City, with 14.0 creative businesses per 100,000 residents, compared to Aurora's 250.2. Population size doesn't always translate to support, according to Creative Fabrica.
"While some cities might boast a bright and shiny creative scene, it's not just about quantity; it’s about quality, too," reads the poll. "For makers and creatives, having access to fantastic stores and workshops is just as important as finding a place that fosters a love of learning and exploration."
