Aurora Landlord To Serve 180 Days In Jail For Restraining Tenant

The property owner pleaded guilty this month to a reduced charge after initially facing sexual assault charges.

AURORA, IL — An Aurora landlord accused of sexually assaulting a tenant will begin a 180-day jail sentence next month after pleading guilty to a lesser charge, according to a report by the Aurora Beacon-News.

Mahmoud Khamissi, 38, was sentenced after pleading guilty this month to unlawful restraint. He faced 6-30 years in prison if convicted on the two charges he was facing — aggravated criminal sexual assault causing bodily harm and attempted aggravated criminal sexual assault, the report states.

Khamissi was also sentenced to serve three years on probation, the report states.

Aurora police arrested Khamissi in May 2019 after a tenant reported he attacked her in April, days after she moved into one of Khamissi’s rental units on the city’s east side, according to a report by the Daily Herald.

The woman told police she rejected Khamissi’s advances for several days before he assaulted her in a garage on April 20, the report states. Police said Khamissi fled the area after a passerby yelled and interrupted the attack, the report states.

Khamissi is due to report to jail Aug. 25. He will receive credit for spending two weeks at the jail after his arrest, the Daily Herald reports.
