AURORA, IL — The Kane County State's Attorney's Office announced Wednesday an Aurora man will go to prison for having a gun even though he was prohibited from possessing one due to prior convictions for gun offenses. In a release, the state's attorney's office said 31-year-old Marcus T. Walker was convicted by a jury Tuesday of armed habitual criminal, a Class X felony, due to knowingly possessing a firearm after being convicted for at least two qualifying gun-related offenses.

According to a release, Kane County Assistant State’s Attorneys Matthew Rodgers and Samantha Cain presented evidence during the two-day trial supporting claims that on Oct. 5, 2016, Walker possessed a gun while in Aurora. Walker admitted during an interview by Aurora police that he had recently bought the gun even though he knew he was prohibited from having one, officials added.

In 2009, Walker was convicted in Kendall County of the offense of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, and then convicted in 2012 in Cook County of the same offense, a release said. Walker served a prison term for each offense.
