Aurora Man Who Dealt Drugs To Police Officer Gets 18-Year Sentence: SA

AURORA, IL — An Aurora man was sentenced to 18 years in prison for dealing drugs to an undercover police officer, according to the Kendall County State's Attorney's Office.

Alan Diaz-Diaz, 22, was sentenced on the charge of armed violence, a Class X felony, the most serious criminal offense, in a negotiated plea agreement with Judge Jody Gleason.

According to Kendall County State's Attorney Eric Weis, the Aurora man delivered more than 200 grams of psilocybin mushrooms to an undercover police officer working with the Kendall County Police Assistance Team in July 2022.

After the drug deal, police performed a traffic stop on Diaz-Diaz's car and found a loaded handgun with no serial number inside an open backpack within arm's reach of the man. Diaz-Diaz admitted to carrying the gun for protection during drug deals, officials said.

He was not legally allowed to possess the firearm as he did not have a Firearm Owners Identification card or conceal-carry license, officials said.

"Armed drug [dealers] should be aware that if you attempt to sell drugs while armed with an illegal gun, you will be serving a very long sentence in prison," Weis said in a statement.

Upon completing his sentence, Diaz-Diaz will serve three years of mandatory supervised release.
