Aurora Man Who Hit Person With Gun Gets Tased, Arrested: Sheriff

The man, 51, was tased and charged with aggravated battery after he hit a man in the head with a rifle, officials said.

AURORA, IL — An Aurora man is facing felony charges after the Kane County Sheriff's Office determined he hit a man on the head with a firearm, officials said.

Javier Morales, whose last known address is in the 2100 block of Best Place in Aurora, was apprehended after he fled and was tased by police following the battery at about 12:03 p.m. Aug. 14 in the 600 block of Crane Street in Aurora.

The 51-year-old man is accused of hitting a man, causing minor injuries, before fleeing in a black Ford Taurus prior to police's arrival. The victim positively identified the offender as Morales, who he had known through business, officials said.

Police confronted Morales at his address, but when he refused to comply, deputies tased him and "taken into custody for the safety of all officers involved and citizens in the general area," according to a news release.

Detectives obtained a search warrant for the Best Place residence and found firearms, high-capacity magazines and ammunition, including a Kel-Tech Sub 2000 rifle. The firearm used in the battery was not among the items, so deputies obtained another search warrant for Morales's business in the 600 block of Crane Street and found a short barrel rifle, a second Kel-Tech Sub 2000 rifle and more ammunition.

Morales was charged with the following:

  • One count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon
  • Three counts aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, revoked FOID
  • One count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of short barrel rifle
  • One county of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, no FOID for ammunition
  • One count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance
