Aurora School Named Illinois' Best Public High School

AURORA, IL — The city of Aurora is home to the state’s best public high school, according to Niche, a school search platform.

The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy earned top marks in Niche’s 2021 Best School rankings, earning an overall grade of A+.

The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy has 647 students in grades 10-12 with a student-teacher ratio of 17 to 1.

The Aurora school is also rated No. 1 in Niche’s “Best Public School Teachers in Illinois” rankings, as well as its “Best College Prep Public High Schools in Illinois” rankings.

With updated data for nearly 95,000 public schools, 24,000 private schools and almost 12,000 school districts nationwide, Niche's rankings provide "an in-depth analysis of the quality of a given school, allowing parents and students to find the best fit for their individual needs with ease," according to a press release.

Online Classes Until 2021 For East Aurora Schools Due To Pandemic

Niche states that unlike traditional rankings, which rely almost exclusively on metrics like test scores and academic performance, its rankings provide a more personal view of a school.

The organization combines user input — comments from current students, alumni and parents — with quantitative data points to produce a well-rounded analysis. In addition to academics, the factors considered include teachers, resources and facilities, extracurricular activity opportunities, and student/faculty/curriculum diversity.
