Aurora Teen Dies 2 Weeks After Shooting, Car Crash: Police

The 18-year-old was shot Dec. 29 while driving his car on Aurora's East Side, police said.

AURORA, IL — An 18-year-old Aurora man who was shot Dec. 29 while driving on the city’s East Side died Monday, according to police.

Mario Palacios Jr., of the 1300 block of Kane Street, died at Loyola University, where he was transferred after being taken to an Aurora-area hospital in critical condition, police said.

Police said officers went to the 1000 block of Second Avenue around 8:30 p.m. Dec. 29 after residents reported hearing gunshots. They soon after learned a man crashed his car in that block and appeared to have been shot, police said.

Paramedics from the Aurora Fire Department took Palacios to a local hospital before he was transferred to Loyola University Medical Center.

Aurora police said they launched a homicide investigation following Palacios’ death Monday. The department is asking anyone with information about the shooting to call its Investigations Division at 630-256-5500.
