Aurora's Longest-Serving Teacher Will Have Street Named After Her
Laura Waegner, 79, retired from Holy Angels School in May after teaching there for 54 years.

AURORA, IL — Aurora's longest-serving teacher will have a street by Holy Angels School named in her honor Friday, officials said.
Laura Waegner, 79, retired at the end of the last school year after teaching mostly middle school studies at Holy Angels for 54 years. Her first year of teaching, in August 1969, was at the neighboring St. Rita School.
To begin the new school year, the now-retired educator will return to Holy Angels at 9 a.m. Friday, when the 700 block of Kensington Place will be renamed Laura Waegner Way.

Known as an "institution" at the school, Waegner has taught the grandchildren of students she had back when she first started more than half a century ago.
In May, Mayor Richard Irvin proclaimed May 17, 2024, as Laura Waegner Day in Aurora.
