Coronavirus Deaths Surge In Kane County After Weeks With None

KANE COUNTY, IL — Kane County experienced its longest stretch without a coronavirus-related death last month, but deaths have surged since, according to public health data.

No coronavirus-related deaths were recorded between Sept. 17 and Oct. 3, but public health officials announced eight deaths over the next eight days.

As of Sunday, 335 Kane County residents have died after testing positive for the virus, according to statistics from the Illinois Department of Public Health.

The county’s death toll includes 111 residents from Aurora, 72 from Elgin, 41 from South Elgin, 33 from Geneva, 29 from North Aurora, 16 from Carpentersville and 11 from St. Charles.

Kane County's seven-day rolling average of daily new cases reached 85.7 on Sunday, the highest it’s been since Aug. 22, public health data shows.

The county’s positivity rate jumped from 5.3 percent on Oct. 2 to 7 percent just a week later, the state’s data shows.

The positivity rate in Region 8 — made up of Kane and DuPage counties — also rose significantly over the same period, from 4.8 percent to 6.3 percent, as of Friday.
