Emerson, wanted for attempted murder, fled while officers established a perimeter around the residence, officials said. Members of the Aurora Special Response Team (SRT) entered the home and found no one inside.

Police identified the vehicle they believed Emerson had left in and shared information on the vehicle to other police agencies statewide.

At around 10:30 a.m., Emerson's car was located in the 2100 block of Cottage Road in Wilmington, where he exited the car and shot himself, police said. Deputies tried to save his life, but he died of his gunshot wound, Patch reported.
