Daily Coronavirus Cases On The Rise Again In Kane County
Kane County recorded 74 new coronavirus cases on July 24, the biggest single-day increase since the end of May, public health data shows.
KANE COUNTY, IL — The average number of daily new coronavirus cases in Kane County reached a three-month low in early July, but over the past three weeks that number has more than doubled, according to public health data.
The 7-day rolling average — a measure that takes into account daily fluctuations in testing to show longer-term trends in coronavirus data — has risen from 26.5 cases per day on July 9 to 58.2, the data shows. That represents a 120 percent increase over the past 20 days.

When the 7-day rolling average dipped to 26.5 cases on July 9, it was the lowest average in Kane County since April 11, just before the county experienced a large, sustained increase in cases over the next month.
As of Wednesday, the average number of new cases per day reached its highest mark since June 10.

Statistics from the Illinois Department of Public Health show 407 Kane County residents have tested positive for the coronavirus over the past week, a 45 percent increase over the total number of cases reported each of the previous two weeks. More than 8,900 Kane County residents have tested positive for the coronavirus, as of Wednesday.
Of the 407 residents who tested positive over the past week, 103 were from Aurora, 83 were from Elgin, 43 were from St. Charles and 36 were from Carpentersville. New cases over the past week also include 24 in Batavia, 19 in South Elgin, 17 in North Aurora, and 12 each in Geneva and West Dundee, the data shows.
Public health officials on Wednesday reported three additional coronavirus-related deaths, bringing the county’s death toll to 297 people. No coronavirus-related deaths were recorded over the previous six days, the data shows.

Kane County is paired with DuPage County in Illinois’ West Suburban coronavirus-management region. Under the state’s new mitigation plans, regions could face new restrictions on businesses and activities if they meet certain statistical thresholds.

New restrictions would be implemented in a region if it records positivity rates of more than 8 percent for three consecutive days. Gov. J.B. Pritzker warned state officials would also impose new restrictions if a region reports daily positivity-rate increases seven times with 10 days along with an increase in hospital admissions due to coronavirus-related symptoms or a drop in capacity in intensive care units.

Over the past week, Gov. J.B. Pritzker has warned several counties that they could soon face new restrictions due to increasing positivity rates and hospital admissions.
As of Wednesday, the positivity rate in Region 8 — made up of Kane and DuPage counties — stands at 4.5 percent, according to statistics from the Illinois Department of Public Health. The region has reported positivity rate increases in five of the past 10 days and hospital-admission increases twice over the same period.

Half of the regions’ ICU units and 38 percent of medical/surgical beds are currently available, well above the state’s 20 percent threshold for new restrictions.
