Dealing Cocaine To Undercover Cop Nets Aurora Man 11-Year Prison Term

The man, 40, was convicted of first-degree murder in 1999 and was on mandatory supervised release when he dealt the drugs, officials said.

AURORA, IL — An Aurora man was sentenced to 11 years in prison for dealing cocaine to an undercover police officer in 2023.

Kendall County State's Attorney Eric Weis said Thursday that Eddie James, of the 300 block of Indian Trail in Aurora, was given the sentence on the charge of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance in a negotiated plea agreement last week.

Prosecutors said James, 40, delivered more than 15 grams of cocaine to an undercover cop working with the Kendall County Police Assistance Team in September 2023. The man was arrested in October 2023, once the investigation concluded, and James has been in custody since.

James was previously convicted of first-degree murder in 1999 and was on mandatory supervised release when he dealt the drugs, officials said.

Upon completing his sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections, the man will serve 18 months of mandatory supervised release.
