District 131 Celebrates 'Those Who Excel' Honorees
The annual award program recognizes and honors educators who have made outstanding contributions to elementary and secondary education.
Several District 131 staff have been recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education’s “Those Who Excel” program. The annual award program recognizes and honors educators who have made outstanding contributions to elementary and secondary education.
Those Who Excel awards recognize invaluable contributions to their schools and communities. Awards presented include: Awards of Excellence, Awards of Merit, and Awards of Recognition across multiple categories, including classroom teacher, school administrator, student support personnel, and community volunteer.

This year the Illinois State Board of Education recognizes the following individuals/teams from EASD 131 for award this year:
- Brady MTSS Team – Meritorious Service Team: Angie Kniss, Nicole Connolly, Kevin Frelander, Katie Lodge, Kathy Schroeder, Sheila Connelly, and Alexandra Zepeda
- Adam Campos – Meritorious Service, Student Support Personnel
- Frank Mendoza – Meritorious Service, Educational Service Personnel
- Rebecca Jo Wilding – Excellence, Early Career Educator
A “Those Who Excel” banquet was to be hosted on October 17 in Normal. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions in place limiting large gatherings, this year’s in-person event has been canceled. An alternative plan to honor our outstanding educators is being developed.
