District 131 Delays In-Person Classes Until Early November
East Aurora students won't return to classroom until Nov. 4 at the earliest, according to officials.
AURORA, IL — Students in East Aurora School District 131 will complete the first quarter of the 2020-21 school year from home. District 131 will not transition to its hybrid learning model until Nov. 4 at the earliest, with coronavirus cases climbing within the district, Superintendent Jennifer Norrell said in a message to families.
West Aurora Schools Scrap In-Person Learning, Delay Start Date
“This change is necessary, given that the current rate of COVID-19 cases in our local zip code is approaching twice the amount of the state of Illinois, and well over half of our parents have chosen full remote instruction,” Norrell wrote. “This change is also necessary in order to meet current public health guidelines and keep all students and staff healthy.”

“This is an extremely difficult decision, and while I know many families and staff will welcome the change, I realize others may not,” Norrell continued.

The district is looking for ways to support students in preschool through fifth grade with an understanding “that some families may depend on the two hybrid in-person days due to child care needs,” Norrell said.
