District 204 Schools To Use Remote Learning Through October

Students in Indian Prairie School District 204 will not return to classrooms until Oct. 30 at the earliest, officials said.

AURORA, IL — After giving students a choice to return to the classroom part-time for the fall semester, Indian Prairie School District 204 Superintendent Adrian Talley announced Friday that all classes will be held online the first eight weeks of the new school year.

Families initially were given until Saturday to choose between full-time remote learning or the district’s hybrid model, but officials last week extended the deadline through Monday evening. Three days before the new deadline, however, Talley announced he would recommend the district’s school board adopt a full-time remote learning plan through at least Oct. 30.

“This is not a decision I make lightly,” Talley wrote in a message to parents. “However, I am confident that we can maintain District 204's commitment to excellence and rigor while keeping our students and staff safe.”

The District 204 Board of Education is set to review a revised plan at its meeting Monday night, with officials expected to provide additional information in the coming week.

Though the district will be returning to a remote-only model, Talley promised “this fall’s remote learning will not be the same as what students experienced in the spring.”

“Students will have robust and challenging coursework that is reflective of the caliber of teachers in our district and aligned to the expectations of our parents,” Talley wrote.
