Fake Armed Robbery Report Leads To Charge For Aurora Man: Sheriff
A 20-year-old Aurora man reported his cell phone and car were stolen at gunpoint before later admitting he crashed his car, deputies said.
AURORA, IL — An Aurora man is facing a felony charge after Kane County deputies alleged he lied about being the victim of an armed robbery in Elburn last month.
Cristobal Gomez, 20, of the 1100 block of Indian Avenue, was charged with one count of disorderly conduct — filing a false police report, according to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies allege Gomez called the office Nov. 20 to report an armed robbery after pulling into a church parking lot in Elburn. Gomez told deputies who responded that a man tapped on his window with a gun and demanded he hand over his phone, deputies said.
Gomez reported the man then smashed the phone on the ground and stole his car, which was found that afternoon in a ditch along Hughes Road, deputies said.

Gomez admitted during an interview that he was not robbed at gunpoint and had lost control of his car before walking home, deputies allege.
