Gas Leak Near Fox Valley Mall: City Of Aurora
New York Street and Fox Valley Circle were closed as Aurora firefighters and Nicor responded.

AURORA, IL — The City of Aurora was asking drivers to avoid the area after a gas leak was reported in the area of the Fox Valley Mall on Tuesday afternoon. Just after 3 p.m., city officials said New York Street was closed heading east from Commons Drive to mall entrance #6 (the Denny's entrance) due to a gas main break. Fox Valley Circle was also closed from entrance 5 to entrance 6.
Fire officials told the Daily Herald that a construction crew digging near the Habitat For Humanity ReStore struck a gas main. The ReStore was reportedly evacuated as a safety precaution.
The Aurora Fire Department and Nicor were on the scene.
