Lake Street Building Fire Displaces 7 Residents: Aurora FD
The fire extended from the second floor into the attic, where access was blocked off, making efforts difficult, officials said.

AURORA, IL — A fire broke out at around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at a building in the 500 block of South Lake Street, displacing seven residents, according to the Aurora Fire Department.
The fire was seen coming from the attic of the three-story apartment building. After dispatchers received several calls reporting the fire, a Montgomery Fire Protection District engine that was returning from a separate call stopped by the scene to notify residents to evacuate the building.
The original response was upgraded, bringing a total of 27 personnel to the property. As crews began fighting the flames, the fire extended from the second floor into the attic, where access was blocked off, making efforts difficult, officials said.

The incident was upgraded to a third level to give the original crews more assistance. The new alarm brought two additional engines, one truck, one medic unit and one chief officer.
Once firefighters gained access to the attic, crews completely extinguished the fire, ensured there were no victims in the building, and performed overhaul operations to ensure there were no remaining hotspots.

No firefighters or residents were injured. The residents are working with the building owner to find temporary housing, officials said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, officials said.
