The man, 24, was sentenced about two years after he fled from deputies, driving into oncoming traffic and toward police at up to 100 mph.

AURORA, IL — An Aurora man was sentenced to nine years in prison for felonies including attempted murder and aggravated assault in a 2022 fleeing and eluding incident with police, the Kane County State's Attorney's Office said Thursday.
Pedro A. Vilchis received his prison term during a June 3 bench trial before Judge David Kliment. The 24-year-old, of the 300 block of West New York Street, was charged with the following felonies:
- One count of attempted murder

Vilchis's conviction stems from an Aug. 12, 2022, incident with Kane County sheriff's deputies. According to information Assistant State's Attorneys Katy Flannagan and Brandon Raney presented in court, deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop for Vilchis's reckless driving. When deputies attempted to carry out the stop, he fled at high rates of speed, exceeding 100 mph at times.
The pursuit lasted more than 15 minutes and involved more than 20 officers, Flannagan said.

In three separate instances, he also went into oncoming traffic at speeds of 80 to 100 mph, each time directing his car at police officers, officials said. He once refused to swerve to avoid a deputy driving a marked squad car with emergency lights activated. The officer drove off the road to avoid a head-on collision.
Vilchis fled until his car was ultimately disabled, officials said, and he was taken into custody.
"My thanks to the multiple law enforcement agencies that had to become
involved in this pursuit for their outstanding work in keeping the public safe from Mr. Vilchis and his incredibly dangerous conduct," Flannagan said in a statement. "... I am thankful that no innocent civilians were injured and that all of the officers involved were able to go home to their loved ones unharmed."
