Mother Pleads For Help For Severely Injured 2-Month-Old

Brian Clemente, of Aurora, is being held in Kane County jail on $1 million bail after police alleged he intentionally hurt his daughter.

AURORA, IL — A mother whose 2-month-old daughter was severely beaten in Aurora issued a plea for help Wednesday as her baby recovers in the hospital.

Jasmine Vargas set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for her daughter’s extensive medical needs. On the page, Vargas said her daughter, Samantha, was nearly killed Sunday by her father, Brian Clemente.

Clemente, 27, was arrested early Sunday morning at his Aurora home after police were called to help an injured infant. Officers said Samantha was bleeding from her mouth and had severe swelling when they found her.

Clemente was charged with aggravated battery to a child and aggravated domestic battery, according to Kane County court records. He is being held in Kane County jail on $1 million bail.

Police said Samantha was in critical but stable condition Monday at a local trauma center, after she was transferred there for treatment.

In her post Wednesday, Vargas said Samantha was in critical condition, suffering from seizures, brain bleeding, swelling and fevers.

Vargas said she wants “the world to share this post that she is fighting for her life” and asked for people to pray for her daughter.
