New Coronavirus Test Site Opens In Aurora
The new testing site opened just north of the Chicago Premium Outlets, where the previous site was located for five months.
AURORA, IL — With its coronavirus testing site at the Chicago Premium Outlets forced to close by the end of September, the Illinois Department of Public Health opened a new site Wednesday just up the street from the mall.
The IDPH is offering free coronavirus tests from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily at 2450 N. Farnsworth Ave. in Aurora, where the Fox Valley Inn once stood.

The testing site is using a drive-thru format, though residents who walk to the site can also get tested, according to the Kane County Health Department.
The new site is less than half a mile north of the Chicago Premium Outlets, where the IDPH administered about 450 tests each day for the past five months.

The IDPH has opened 10 community-based testing sites, including the one in Aurora. These sites test an average of about 25,000 people per day, according to officials.
Public health officials were forced to find a new site in the Aurora region after the Chicago Premium Outlets’ property owner decided against renewing a lease that granted the IDPH permission to conduct coronavirus tests.

As of Tuesday, the IDPH has conducted more than 5.5 million coronavirus tests, with 291,001 confirmed cases and 8,637 coronavirus-related deaths. In Kane County, 13,195 people have tested positive for the coronavirus and 327 residents have died, according to state statistics.
