No Coronavirus Deaths In Kane County For 2 Weeks

Kane County recorded no coronavirus-related deaths in the past 14 days, the longest it's gone without one since the pandemic started.

KANE COUNTY, IL — Kane County has gone 14 days without recording a coronavirus-related death. That’s the county’s longest stretch without one since the pandemic started in March, public health data shows.

The county recorded 15 deaths in the first 16 days of September — more than in all of August — but none since, according to statistics from the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Though Kane County has recorded no coronavirus-related deaths in two weeks, 935 residents have tested positive for the virus during that period, according to statistics from the Illinois Department of Public Health.

As of Wednesday, 13,337 people in Kane County have tested positive for the coronavirus and 327 residents have died, public health data shows.

Public health officials have reported about 9 percent fewer positive tests in September than August, but September’s 1,975 cases are more than 40 percent higher than case totals in June and July.

Kane County’s seven-day rolling average of daily new cases has fluctuated between 50 and 85 cases since July 25. The county’s seven-day average did not surpass 50 cases at any point in the previous six weeks, public health data shows.

Kane County’s 13,337 coronavirus cases include 4,761 in Aurora, 3,035 in Elgin and 1,227 in Carpentersville and 1,034 in St. Charles, as well as 636 in South Elgin, 486 in Geneva, 362 in Batavia, 352 in North Aurora and 218 in Montgomery. All other municipalities have reported less than 200 coronavirus cases, as of Wednesday.

The positivity rate in Region 8 — made up of Kane and DuPage counties — stands at 5.4 percent, as of Monday, after reaching a high of 6.2 percent at the end of August.

Kane County’s positivity rate is 6.1 percent, down from 7.3 percent on Sept. 20, according to the IDPH.

Public health officials have imposed new restrictions on three of Illinois’ 11 coronavirus-management regions after positivity rates there surpassed 8 percent for at least three days.

Additional restrictions have been removed in Region 7 (Will and Kankakee counties) after its positivity rate fell, but restrictions remain in place in Region 1 (northwest Illinois) and Region 4 (Metro East).
