Pop-Up Pantry To Feed Hundreds Monday In Aurora

The City of Aurora is hosting a pop-up food pantry from 9 a.m. to noon Monday in Phillips Park.

AURORA, IL — Residents can drop by Phillips Park on Monday morning to pick up groceries from the City of Aurora's third pop-up food pantry. City officials will be handing out boxes to about 1,200 families from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, according to a news release.

The grocery boxes will contain fresh meat, dairy and produce, the release states.

“Our pop-up pantries are a mixed blessing,” Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin said in the release. “While we are happy to provide this much-needed service for our community, it is disheartening to see the need continue to grow during this pandemic.”

In May, the city's pop-up food pantry served about 800 families, while the second pantry in June served 1,000 families, the release states.

The pop-up food pantry in Phillips Park is being sponsored by the City of Aurora, along with the Northern Illinois Food Bank, the Marie Wilkinson Food Pantry, the Quad County Urban League and Ald. Ted Mesiacos, who represents Aurora's 3rd Ward.
