AURORA, IL — An Aurora man found guilty of aggravated criminal sexual assault was sentenced to 24 years in prison, Kane County State's Attorney Jamie Mosser said Monday.

A jury convicted Darryl E. Holman, 51, for the Class X felony charge on Aug. 28. Judge Bianca Camargo sentenced him on Oct. 18.

In court, Assistant State's Attorneys Matthew Rodgers and Jacqueline Kliment said Holman used force to sexually assault the victim, injuring her. The attack happened in July 2021 in Aurora, and the man was charged in October of that year, according to a report from the Daily Herald.

Holman is required to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence. He received 24 days of credit based on mandatory consecutive sentencing to a prior case, officials said. The man must also register for life as a sexual offender.

"Mr. Holman has a long history of violence that culminated with this brutal sexual assault," Rodgers said in a statement. "This is a just sentence that will keep him separated from society where he belongs."
