Barrington Seeks Feedback on New Food Scrap Program
The village wants to hear from residents on its new Food Scrap Program.
The village of Barrington is seeking feedback on its new Food Scrap Program, which began on March 18 and runs through Dec. 16. Residents can share their thoughts on the program in an online survey.
As part of the new recycling program, residents participating can discard approved food scraps into their 95-gallon compost cart. Collection occurs on Friday during regular refuse and recycling pick-up.
Food composting keeps food waste out of landfills where it takes up space, produces methane and often cannot decompose, according to information posted on the village's website, Composted food breaks down quickly and produces healthy soil making it much better for the environment.
