Meet Village President Karen Darch
Darch explains what her job entails and why she calls Barrington home.
My name is Karen Darch, and I'm the Village President in Barrington. Â The job of Village President is to be the Chief Executive Officer of the village, to preside over the Village Board of Trustees, and I'm a member of that board as a presiding officer. Â And that group is the corporate authority for the village, basically making the ordinances that effect our activities here in the village.Â
And we have a professional staff that does all of the important public works functions, police and fire, day to day administration of the village. Â Those folks report to a manager who reports to us on the village board.Â
I really enjoy the people that I'm working with in the job, the board members are great people, the staff of the village works really hard, and is very professional, they've done a wonderful job. Â And I love coming in contact with the people. Â Being invited to so many things, and being a part of so many things, and seeing things improve.Â

My husband and I lived in the city when we first came to Illinois, and 25 years ago, moved out to Barrington when we were ready to have a family. Â We loved the beautiful physical natural environment, we loved the train, being able to go into the city for his work and my work at the time. Â It's just a great place to raise a family. Â Our neighborhood is wonderful, the community itself is wonderful, and the greater Barrington area is fantastic. Â It offers so many things, and the people have just been wonderful. Â So, this is home for us, for our family, and we really feel a part of the community.Â
