The Oldest Church in Barrington Celebrates Milestones

The Community Church of Barrington prepares to celebrate 163 years of service.

In September of 1847, The Community Church of Barrington was born.  It's the oldest church in the village, and congregants are preparing to mark the163rd anniversary with a "Friends" themed bash.

Senior Pastor, Rev. Zina Jacque says she is excited to show the community what the church is all about.

"We love opening our doors to neighbors and friends.  In fact, if I could only use one word to describe CCB it would be hospitality.  And so it was just natural to celebrate our anniversary around the theme of friends and family," Rev. Jacque explained.

The event takes place on Sunday, Sept. 26, and includes a wide variety of activities that are all open to the public. The day will begin at 9:30 a.m. with Sunday School, and will end in the afternoon with a community wide block party. The worship sermon at 10:30 is titled, "FRIENDS: The Prequel."

According to Rev. Jacque, the church celebrates differences, and is made up of several faith traditions.  The Community Church of Barrington is also the only church in the village with an African American Senior Pastor.

"What rings through the history of this church is the willingness to be different, to take risks, and the importance of relationships, friendships, support and love," Rev. Jacque said.

Rev. Jacque says the chosen theme of "Friends" truly sums up what the anniversary is all about.

"Our anniversary is a celebration of what it means to be a church and to be in a relationship with others.  It is about how these ties that bind can sustain almost anything.  It really is exciting when you think about it."

The Community Church of Barrington is located on the corner of Grove and Lincoln Avenues.  For more information on the anniversary event, visit www.ccbarrington.org.
