Bolingbrook Couple Dies After Gun Discharges In Home: Police

Police said Simeon Hendrickson took his own life after he accidentally shot his wife, Laurie Hendrickson, while he was cleaning guns.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — Two Bolingbrook residents died on Saturday after police responded to a report of a person being shot accidentally while he was cleaning his gun, but later learned that two people sustained gunshot wounds, Bolingbrook police said Sunday.

Simeon S. Hendrickson, 61, and his wife, Laurie H. Hendrickson, died in the incident, which occurred at 5:45 p.m. on Saturday in the 700 block of Dalton Lane. Police said they were called to the address for the report that a man had accidentally shot himself, but then learned that two people had actually been wounded.

Police said on Sunday that Simeon Hendrickson was working on his handguns at his home when one of the weapons discharged and the bullet struck Laurie Hendrickson, police said. Police said that Simeon Hendrickson then shot himself with one of the handguns and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Laurie Hendrickson was taken to a local hospital, where she later died, police said.

This incident is not a random act and there is no danger to the public, police said on Saturday.
