BOLINGBROOK, IL — It was apparent that neither Brooks Middle School 7th grader Sofia Aragon nor Brooks 8th grader, and defending Spelling Bee Champion, Sumaiya Idrees were interested in going home. The two students went a total of 63 rounds, 47 rounds head-to-head, before a winner finally emerged at the Brooks Middle School Spelling Bee.

In Round 63, the door opened for Sumaiya and she re-claimed her title by correctly spelling the word “reductive”. Watch the video to see the two contestants go back-and-forth.
Sumaiya advances at the Brooks representative to the Will County Spelling Bee on March 10. Also representing Valley View as school champions are: Miriam Tsegay, 7th grade, Jane Addams Middle School; Brandon Dohmeier, 7th grade, Humphrey Middle School; Lukancic Middle School will determine their champion on January 27.
