4 Hurt When Minivan Rear-Ends Chicago Police Car

Police suspect alcohol was a factor in Sunday's crash in Logan Square, and charges are pending against the minivan's driver.

CHICAGO, IL — Four people — including a Chicago police officer — were hurt late Sunday when a minivan rear-ended a squad car and hit another vehicle on the Northwest Side, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. The other victims in the crash included an 18-year-old woman, a 21-year-old man and the 27-year-old minivan driver. Police suspect alcohol contributed to the accident, and charges are pending against the driver of the minivan, the report added.

According to police, the crash happened just after 11 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, in the Logan Square neighborhood, the report stated. A 2002 Dodge Caravan hit the squad car from behind as it was heading east in the 2500 block of West Fullerton Avenue, the report added. The minivan then had a head-on collision with a 2002 Ford Focus that was traveling west on the street, according to the report.

The injured officer suffered minor injuries in the accident and was taken to an area hospital for evaluation, the report stated. The other three victims in the crash were taken to Stroger Hospital and Illinois Masonic Medical Center in serious-to-critical condition, the report added.
