Closed J. Wellington's Storefront to House New Business

Finally under new ownership, the empty storefront that used to be J. Wellington's is promised a new commercial tenant by the end of the year.

The graffitied, sticker-laden empty storefront on West North Avenue that was once home to neighborhood favorite burger joint J. Wellington's was purchased two weeks ago by Lipe Property Co.

A construction canopy covered the sidewalk on Monday while workers began renovating the building.

The first floor will remain a commercial space and talks with a retail business are in the works, according to building owner Steve Lipe. However, he declined to release a potential commercial tenant because details were still being finalized.

While the construction portion will wrap up soon,  the timeline for the occupying of the bottom-floor storefront will be up to the business owner, Lipe said. He speculated that the retail space will be up and running by the end of the year or at the latest, early 2014.

The second-floor unit is one of two in the building, sharing the story with a computer repair shop

An office space, it is currently on Lipe Property Co.'s websiteavailable for rent.
