Double Door To Reopen In Uptown Theater

Double Door, which was kicked out of Wicker Park in 2017, has a new home in Uptown—a venue that hasn't hosted a musical act in 99 years.

CHICAGO, IL — Double Door is coming back to a brand-new venue in Uptown. The Wilson Avenue Theater will be home to Double Door, which was evicted from its venue in Wicker Park in 2017.

The Wilson Avenue Theater hasn't hosted musical acts since 1919, according to an Uptown Update report. Now, Double Door brings their experience to their new theater, with top-notch acts like The Rolling Stones, The Smashing Pumpkins, John Legend and more having performed at their old location.

James Cappleman, the 46th Ward Alderman, confirmed it in a Facebook post. "Well, the secret is out.... Double Door, welcome to Uptown’s Entertainment District in the 46th Ward!" he said while posting a picture of the venue's door.

Double Door co-owner Sean Mulroney and landlord Brian Strauss battled over the Wicker Park space since the club's original lease expired in October 2015. Strauss moved to have the club evicted a month after the lease ran out, claiming Mulroney didn't give him the necessary 180-day notice to extend the agreement.

Bonita Stone, Strauss' attorney, told NBC5 Chicago "From my perspective the lease is clear and it's kind of game over."
